Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge 5 Odd Shaped Enclosure

Title of the Project: Advanced Sheet Metal Design Using NX Cad Challenge 5 Odd Shaped Enclosure

Objective: To design a Odd shaped Enclosure with the help of NX advance sheet metal.

    Introduction:

Sheet metal is metal formed by an industrial process into thin, flat pieces. Countless everyday objects are fabricated from sheet metal. Thicknesses can vary significantly; extremely thin sheets are considered foil or leaf, and pieces thicker than 6 mm (0.25 in) are considered plate steel or "structural steel".

We can also quickly convert solid models to sheet metal components, and create sheet metal parts that enclose other components.

NX Sheet Metal provides a set of tools within the NX design environment that allows for simple and fast design of sheet metal parts, dependent on their material and manufacturing process, the most common of which is straight brake sheet metal forming.

So, in this project I am going to design a Box Assembly by using sheet metal tools and commands.

    Design methodology / approach

    Description

The important tools which used during designing of Box Assembly are as follow:

    • Sketching & Extrude: In this step we will create a base sketch and we will do extrude of it upto 200 mm.

    • Sheet metal from solid: In this procedure we will wrap the solid body with sheet metal that means we will convert extrude body into 3mm sheet metal body.

    • Flanges: Now we will add 20 mm and 90 deg flange on the body.

    • Jog: After that we have to create a jog line for adding jog feature.

    • Unbend: Now in this step we will unbend the sheet metal part.

    • Bead: At base of model, we will create a bead of 3 mm depth.

    • Hole: Now we have to create a hole of 10 mm through body.

    • Rebend: Next step is to rebend the part.

    • Flat pattern: At last, we will create a flat pattern for highlighting the Bend direction, bend radius & bend angle.

    Conclusion

While designing a Box Assembly  I have understand and learnt different tools such as Extrude to sheet metal, Flange, Bending, Jog  & creating hole.
