1.1 How will you assign the Circular section to a column?

    • Open new project
    • Goto Properties tab
    • Click on the Define option
    • By default, it is on circular section so we have to put the diameter and add them

1.2 How will you assign the Unit system to a .std model file?

    • When we create new modal there is option for set unit
    • If we forget to set the unit
    • Right click on mouse select Display Option
    • Click on Structure Unit

1.3 What are the parameters to be specified while using the “Bay Frame” option?

    • Length of frame
    • Height of frame
    • Width of frame
    • Number of bays along length
    • of bays along height
    • of bays along width

1.4 Name a few codal standards incorporated in STAAD Pro software.

    • Indian code i.e., IS code
    • Euro Code
    • ACI Code

When we go for design tab there is lots of options for code

1.5 How will you specify the design compressive strength for an RCC section?

    • Go to the Design tab
    • Select Concrete from ribbon
    • Choose code IS456
    • Click on the Define Parameters
    • Select FC for compressive strength of concrete enter the value and add them

2.1 State the “Input” steps involved in RCC design.

    1. Geometry- First, we have to create the geometry as pr architectural drawing in the geometry tab of the staad pro
    2. Properties- In the property we have to define the member shape and size for column beam slab
    3. Materials- We to define the material of member such concrete steel timber etc
    4. Specifications- Any special designations to be followed while analysing are mentioned in this section.
    5. Supports- In this we can assign support to the member like fixed, pinned, roller
    6. Loading- We have to define the type of load to the structure at any direction
    7. Analysis-Computational analysis is executed based on the selected method in the software
    8. Design- Finally, the building sections are designed and the area of reinforcements is extracted via design report

2.2 Explain the difference between Fixed and Enforced support conditions in STAAD Pro.

    • In the Fixed support condition, the translational and rotational movement are restraint means end condition where all degrees of freedom are restricted in the horizontal, vertical and lateral movement. Staad assumes the displacement to be known quantities whose value is zero. Hence, those degrees of not considered for the stiffness matrix, and their value is not calculated.
    • In the enforced support condition, the degree of freedom is restrained. The software considers these as springs of high stiffness as opposed to fixed supports. It is only essential to define supports as enforced when you have FE models involving plates/solids and for which you need to impose support displacement loads

3.1 Explain the steps involved in the analysis of a model using STAAD Pro sequentially.

3.2 Explain the two ways in which a structural framework/model can be created in STAAD Pro software.

    • With the help of node system in that we can give the coordinate for creating structural framework
    • By using structural wizard method, we can create the different type of prototype modal

3.3 Elaborate on the different support conditions in STAAD Pro

    • Multilinear Spring
    • Foundation
    • Inclined
    • Tension Compression Only Spring
    • Fixed
    • Pinned
    • Fixed But
    • Enforced
    • Enforced But

3.4 How will you extract the stress distribution for a staircase slab?

    • Create the modal of stair case
    • Add plate and define the section as a plate element
    • Assign and specify the material
    • Generate quadrilateral messing for it
    • Assign the fixed support and define the load cases and combination
    • Add the plate load and self-weight
    • Analysis the modal then goes to post processing
    • Check plate result and stress
    • Stress distribution result will be shown in different colour for different zone

3.5 Explain the different ways to view SFD & BMD in STAAD Pro.

    • After analysis go to Post-Processing
    • Click on the Beam Results tab
    • In the ribbon Result tab opened
    • There we can check the Deflection, Displacement, Shear Force, Bending Moment, Stress, Axial Force
    • The values of the diagram, right side in the table

Practical of the staad pro software

Analyse the following structural elements and validate the results
    A. Simply Supported Beam
               a. A Simply supported beam with two-point loads symmetrically placed
               b. Span L = 20m
               c. Load P = 50kN each
               d. Both P located at 5m from each support

    Procedure:

    STEP 1) Creating Modal

    • Open STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition Software
    • Go to New option left side on the home interface
    • Specify the file name, location, unit and modal type
    • Click on Create, modal user interface will open
    • Now, I can create beam in geometry

    STEP 2) Creating Beam

    • In the geometry, I have created 2 Nodese., node 1 in X,Y&Z=0 and node 2 in X=20 , Y&Z= 0
    • Select Add Beam from the ribbon Beam
    • Click on 1st node and 2nd node for beam creation
    • Click on beam property dialog box for highlighting the beam

STEP 3) Define Property of Structure

    • Goto Properties tab, click on Define
    • Select shape of structure, provide dimension
    • Select material of structure as a Concrete and add
    • Click on Assign to View and press Yes it will visible

    STEP 4) Assigning Support

    • Goto Support tab, click on Create
    • Add Fixed support
    • By the help of Use Cursor to Assign, place one by one supports in structure
    • Support is visible in the structure

    STEP 5) Loading Assignment

    • Goto Loading tab, Loading and Definition dialog box will open in right side
    • Select Load Case Detail and Add them as a Load Case 1 and loading type None
    • Then select Load Case 1 and again press on Add a new dialog box will open
    • Click on Member Load and choose Concentrated Force, put value and add them
    • Now select the added load and assign into the beam

    STEP 6) Run Analysis

    • Goto Analysis tab, click on Analysis Command which is left side in the ribbon
    • Analysis print command dialog box will open with perform analysis tab
    • By default, it is on No Print option, so that simply click on add
    • Press the Run Analysis button from the ribbon and check the result
    • In the result there is no warning, no error hence output is OK

STEP 7) Draw SFD and BMD Diagram

    • Click on Post Processing which is left side in the workflow
    • Click on Load Case 1 and apply from the opened dialog box
    • Displacement results is visible
    • Click on Beam Result tab
    • For SFD click on FX and FY from the ribbon
    • Similarly for BMD click on MZ

    B. Fixed Beam
               a. Span L = 16m
               b. Uniformly Distributed Load w=9kN/m

    Procedure:

    • Similarly, we created 16m of span beam geometry
    • Define the property shape and dimension
    • Assign the fixed support
    • Assign the member loading as UDL
    • Analysis the result
