RIB
Ribs are a feature in plastic injection molded parts. They are thin extensions that run perpendicular from a wall or plane. They are commonly used to provide additional support and strength to a part. Thickness and location are essential to rib design. they can one or multiple over a component to provide high shrength.
so while we designing rib we have to design it under the design rules of the ribe to create appropriate rib for the component.
As you can see the above image is showing the design rule for the rib,
Thickness of the ribe - should be 0.4 or 0.5 times of the thickness of the main part.
Hight of the Rib - should be 5 times of the rib thickness.
Rib thickness at the tip of it should be 0.75mm minimum not less that.
Draft angle should be 0.5 degree per side minimum.
Rib fillet radius 0.25 maximum and its optional, you can apply it when required or it can be skipable.
This design rules we have to consider while designing a RIB.
RIB Creation
To create rib over a surface of the component.
we took a Coin hoder as component.
Exatract the base surface of the component then create sketch on it, using position sketch.
Draw line, apply dimesions.
then extude it with the direction of tooling axis. now hight of the rib it is 5 times of thickness of the component, i.e. (2.5*5=12.5mm)
then go to part workbench apply thickness, thickness of the rib i.e 0.4 times of thickness of component. (2.5*0.4= 1mm)
then apply draft to the rib draft should be minimum of 0.5 degree on each faces of the ribe.
then add it in the main component by boolean operation.'chekout the all areas of the rib so it can be under of the design rule.
apply fillets to all faces of the rib.

Week 10- Assembly Workbench
QUICK RETURN MECHANINSM PART 1 In this part we created 5 sub parts which assembled togather to form this Quick return mechanism. BODY 1 this part is a base body where the reamining part is going to rest, created this part with a single sketch and a pad. created a sketch at the center of the all planes which is going to…
