     Objective:

For this challenge, perform the analysis to simulate a sphere pressing on a plate.

Use Structural steel for both sphere and plate but the material of the plate must be Non Linear.

Press the sphere onto plate 4mm downwards and retract it.

    Procedure:

    • we need to add structural steel and structural steel non linear material to the library.

    • go to geometry and import the geometry
    • go to model right click<edit<mechanical apdl will open.
    • rename components as sphere and plate

    • go to connections <delete default connections
    • right click on contact<insert<manual contact<contact=select sphere surface<target=select plate surface<type=frictional<frictional coefficient=0.74

    • go to mesh <generate mesh with element bsize=1mm

    • go to analysis settings<number of steps=4<solver type=direct<large deflection=on

    • right click on static structural<insert displacement<select top surface of the spher<direction y

    • right click on model<insert<symmetry region<select two faces <direction z direction

    • insert symmetry region<select two faces<direction x direction

    • right click on solutiion<insert directional deformation in y direction
    • insert equivalent stress in plate<insert equivalent strain<insert equivalent strain in sphere
    • right click on solution<solve

    Results:

    directional deformation:

    Equivalent stress in plate:

    Equivalent elastic strain:

    Equivalent elastic strain in sphere:

    Directional deformation in plate:

    Result table:

    s.no
    1 directional deformation 0.32934mm
2 Equivalent stress in plate 3313.8MPa
    3 Equivalent elastic strain 0.016575
4 Equivalent elastic strain in sphere 1.2139e^-5

    CONCLUSSION:

In this project sphere made by structural steel pressed in to a plate made by structural steel non linear material.sphere pressed in to plate up to plastic limit where it will not regain its original shape.

        Week 4 -Wire Bending Challenge

        Objective:

Objective: For this challenge, we will have to perform an analysis to simulate the bending of a wire in ANSYS. we will have to use Copper Alloy (Non Linear), Aluminium Alloy (Non Linear) and Magnesium Alloy ( Non Linear) for the wire alone. You need to find out the Equivalent stress and Equivalent strain on the wire alone.…
