AIM : Prepare a report explaining the different fender regulations and Calculate the Wheel Arch gap at required points and check whether the car passes the European standard.
Fender : Fender is the American English term for the part of an automobile, motorcycle or other vehicle body that frames a wheel well (the fender underside). Its primary purpose is to prevent sand, mud, rocks, liquids, and other road spray from being thrown into the air by the rotating tire. Fenders are typically rigid and can be damaged by contact with the road surface.
Fender Wheel Arch : Wheel Arch is the semi-circular part of the fender positioned above the wheel of the vehicle. The design of the wheel arch of the fender should be such that it must shield wheels and protect both passengers compartment and pedestarians from the projection of watr, mud and stones.
Different Fender Regulations :
1. Japan Recquirement :
2. European Regulations Requirement :
3. US Regulation Requirements :
Calculating Wheel arch gap :
First we will draw all the 5 lines on a plane on the outermost part of the wheel, then draw point of intersection of wheel arch lower edge and all 5 lines then project all 5 points to the wheel arch face of fender.
then measure horizontal gap between wheel and all that points.
For point E : Gap = 6.34 mm (Negative)
For point D : Gap = 3.0343 mm (Negative)
For Point C : Gap = 0.1124 mm (Negative)
For Point B : Gap = 9.949 mm
For Point A : Gap = 10 mm
Points | Measured values (mm) | Values according to European Regulations (mm) | Remarks |
A | 10.00 | 10 | GO |
B | 9.949 | 10 | NOGO |
C | - 0.1124 | 10 | NOGO |
D | - 3.0343 | 10 | NOGO |
E | - 6.3395 | 10 | NOGO |
Conclusion : In this report we see that there is only one point in the given fender wheel arch model is good to go but all other four points do not satisfies European Regulations, in which three points have negative gaps.
Therefore Calculation of the Wheel Arch gap at required points and checking of whether the car passes the European standard is completed.

Week 5 - Curve fitting
1. What does popt and pcov mean? (Watch the video to get some context) The curve_fit() function returns two items, which we call popt and pcov. popt- The popt argument are the best-fit parameters (p optimal) for a and b. An array of optimal values for the parameters which minimizes the sum of squares…

Week 3 - Solving second order ODEs
AIM: Write a program that solves the following ODE. This ODE represents the equation of motion of a simple pendulum with damping. In the above equation, g = gravity in m/s2, L = length of the pendulum in m, m = mass of the ball in kg, b=damping coefficient. 2. Write a program in Python that will simulate the pendulum…
