1.The layout of a residential plan:
Aim:
To create the following residential plan in AutoCAD.
Introduction:
AutoCAD is used to create computer-aided designs or software applications including drafting.
The following commands and tools are used for this layout.
- Line: It helps to create a line between two points
- X line: It is the construction line of infinite length which created vertically, horizontally and also at an inclined angle
- Rectangle: It helps to create a four-sided geometry with a desired length and width.
- Offset: It helps to offset an object at a particular distance.
- Move: It helps to move an already existing object from one point to the other by picking a base point.
- Copy: It helps to copy an already existing object from one point to the other by picking a base point.
- Trim: It helps to trim off the extra lines or objects of a selected object which is created while using other tools.
- Erase: It helps to erase a selected object.
Note:
- Keep Ortho on and Object snap on which are in the status bar throughout the drawing which helps to find midpoint, center point and so on.
Procedure:
- In command: units
- The drawing units dialog box appears, in that select Engineering as type and precision as 0’0.0”, intersection scale as inches and click OK.
- In command: limits
- Specify lower left corner: 0’0.0”,0’0.0”
- Specify upper right corner: 100’,100’
- Enter zoom and enter all in the command
- In command enter XL and select vertical line and place it randomly on the screen and click.
- In command enter XL and select horizontal line and place it perpendicular to the above vertical line on the screen and click.
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 9”
- Select the object as the vertical xline and offset it by moving the cursor
- Select the object as the horizontal xline and offset it by moving the cursor
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 6’
- Select the object as the horizontal xline which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the top
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 9”
- Select the object as the horizontal xline which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the top
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 12’6.0”
- Select the object as the inner vertical xline which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the right
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 9”
- Select the object as the vertical xline which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the right
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 25’
- Select the object as the vertical xline which was offset earlier for outer wall and offset it by moving the cursor to the right
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 9”
- Select the object as the vertical xline which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the left
- In command enter fillet and give radius as 0
- Select multiple as option in the command line
- Select the first object as the left outer vertical line and second object as outer horizontal line to form the fillet
- Select the first object as the right outer vertical line and second object as outer horizontal line to form the fillet
- In command enter Trim and select the object as a whole and trim the extra xline in the center and the inner lines which is inside the wall.
- Select line command and specify the first point as the right corner point of the kitchen and move the cursor to the left then enter 6’4” to form a line
- In Command enter offset and give offset distance as 6’8” and select the object as the previously drawn line and move the cursor to the top to form the kitchen segment
- In Command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5” and select the object as the previously drawn line and move the cursor to the top to form the kitchen wall.
- Select line command and join the both lines to form an inner wall
- Now using erase command erase the overlapped reference line.
- In command enter fillet command and give radius as 0 and fillet the corner lines of the kitchen
- Go to modify and select break at point icon and select the object as the horizontal outer line and give break point in the middle
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as13’ 9.5” and select the object as the previously broken line and move the cursor to the top which forms the wall between parking ang living
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 9” and select the object as the previously drawn line to form offset line as shown below

- In command enter Trim and select the object as a whole and trim the right outer edge of the wall
- Select line command and specify the intersection point of the top horizontal and vertical line and draw a line with random dimension which will a temporary line.
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 3’ and select the previously created line and move the cursor to the right to form the opening for door D3
- In command enter Trim and select the object as a whole and trim the inner lines which is in between these above two lines and the extra offset line.
- Select line command and find the midpoint of the above wall and draw a line
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 3’ and select the center line which created earlier and move cursor to the left and click similarly to the right.
- Now erase the center line using delete button
- Select line command from ribbon and find the midpoint of the previously drawn vertical line and draw a line connecting the midpoint of the other vertical line which created earlier to form a window.
- Select line command and specify the first as the right side inner corner of the outer wall of the living area and move the cursor to the top and enter 11’ and move cursor to the left and enter value as 8’1.5”
- Move cursor to the top and enter 4.5” and move cursor to the right and enter 8’1.5” and press enter to form the inner wall between living and toilet.
- In command enter offset and specify the offset distance as 4’6” and select the object as the inner line of the inner wall which created earlier. And move the cursor upward and click
- In command enter offset and specify the offset distance as 4.5” and select the object as the offset line which created earlier. And move the cursor upward and click
- Select line command and draw a vertical line by joining the inner line
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5 and select the object as the preciously created line and move the cursor to the left and click
- In command enter Fillet and give radius as 0 and fillet the edges by selecting the two lines in the corner portion to form Toilet#2
- Select line command and pick up the inn er bottom corner of the wall and draw a random line
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 2’6” and select the previously drawn line and move the cursor to the top
- In command enter Trim and select the object as whole and trim the extra line to form the opening for the door
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 18’0.5” and select object as the inner wall of the kitchen and move the cursor to the top and click
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5” and select object as the previously created line and move the cursor to the top and click
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4’6” and select object as the previously created line and move the cursor to the top and click
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5” and select object as the previously created line and move the cursor to the top and click
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5” and select object as the previously created line and move the cursor to the top and click
- Select line command and specify the point from the inner left corner of the toilet and move cursor to the top and enter 4’6”
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 8’3” and move cursor to the right to form an offset line
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5” and select object as the previously created line and move the cursor to the right
- In command enter Fillet and give radius as 0 and fillet the edges by selecting the corner points of the two lines in the top and bottom
- In command enter Trim and trim the extra line
- Select line command and pick the top right corner point and move cursor to the bottom and draw a line with random dimension
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 2’ 6” and move the cursor to the left and click
- In command enter Trim and trim the lines between the two lines which created earlier

- In command enter offset and specify offset distance as 43’ 6.5” and select the object as the base point and move the cursor to the top.
- In command enter offset and specify offset distance as 43’ 6.5” and select the object as the base point and move the cursor to the top.
- In command enter offset and specify offset distance as 9” and select the object as the offset line which created earlier and move the cursor to the bottom.
- In command enter fillet and enter radius as 0 and select multiple mode and fillet the edges.
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 11’7.5” and select the top left vertical line of the bed room wall and move the cursor to the right and click
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 4.5” and select line command and join the bottom of the line.
- Select rectangle command from ribbon and specify the first point out plan and give dimension, length as 5’ and width as 2’
- Select copy command and selct this object and pick a base point and paste it in the two bedroom toilet walls as shown below

- For creating a door D1 of the Bed room#1 select line command and give hinge distance as 0.5 and move cursor vertically up with random dimension and press enter.
- Then select circle command Place the center point of the circle in the hinge point and move the cursor outward which will touch the wall of the other end.
- Select Trim command and trim the extra portion of the door
- Select mirror command and select the object as the above created door and specify the center point and move the cursor upward which will create the mirror image of the door to the Bed room#2
- Same procedure continues for door D2 and D3.
- For Kitchen slab select offset command and give offset distance as 2’ and select the first object as the length of the kitchen wall and offset a horizontal line and again select the object as the width of the kitchen wall and offset a vertical line and press enter
- Select Trim command and trim the extra portion.
- For creating steps Select offset command and select the object as the base internal wall and give offset distance as 3’
- Select offset and select the vertical line in the staircase area and give offset distance as 4’ and offset a line
- Again select offset and select the previously created line as object and give offset distance as 1’ and continuously offset 9 lines to form staircase.
- For creating layer in command enter LA and layer dialog box opens. Enter and layer name and give colors as shown below.

- Select each object and put it in corresponding layer as shown above.
- Select dimension and text from ribbon and specify each dimension and name as shown in the result
Results:
The following residential plan is obtained by the above steps.

2.The seating plan for an outdoor canopy:

To create the seating plan for an outdoor canopy in AutoCAD.

- Mirror: It helps to mirror image an object
- Move: It helps to move an already existing object from one point to the other by picking a base point.
- Copy: It helps to copy an already existing object from one point to the other by picking a base point.
- Trim: It helps to trim off the extra lines or objects of a selected object which is created while using other tools.
- Erase: It helps to erase a selected object.
Note:
- Keep Ortho off and Object snap on which are in the status bar throughout the drawing
Procedure:
- In command: units
- The drawing units dialog box appears, in that select Decimal as type and precision as 0.00, intersection scale as millimeter and click OK.
- In command: limits
- Specify lower left corner:0,0
- Specify upper right corner: 420,297 and enter
- Enter zoom and enter all in the command
- Select circle command in ribbon and pick center point and specify radius as 1398
- Select circle command in ribbon and pick the same center point and specify radius as 452
- Select rectangle command and click the first point outside the circle and choose dimension, length as 500 and width as 300
- Select arc drop down from ribbon and select center, start, end option
- Click the top center line of the rectangle then the top right end and top left end of the rectangle to form an arc on top.
- In command enter trim and select the object as a whole and trim the top length of the rectangle
- In command enter offset and select the arc as the object and give offset distance as 15
- In command enter offset and select the offset arc which was created earlier as the object and give offset distance as 100
- Select line command and join the ends of the arc on both sides
- In command enter fillet and give fillet radius as 50 and select multiple option and now click the bottom corner length and width lines on both sides
- Select line command and pick the first point as upper fillet end of right side of rectangle and move cursor to the left and enter 15 as distance
- Select rectangle and pick the end of the line as first point and give dimension, length as 100 and 225 as width.
- In command enter mirror and select the rectangle which created earlier and pick bottom middle point of the rectangle as first point and top middle point as second point to form mirror image as shown below
- Now select line of 15 dimension and press delete.

- Select Circle command and give radius as 550 and form a temporary circle
- Select line command and draw vertical and horizontal line connecting the end on both sides

- Select the copy tool and select the chair which created earlier as object and make another 3 copies on sides.
- In command enter rotate and click each chair and give rotation angle as 90, 270,180 respectively.
- In command enter move and pick the bottom middle point as base point and move it to the intersection point of temporary created circle and lines one by one as shown below

Finally delete the temporary lines and circle of radius 550 by selecting and pressing delete
Results:

- Select the object as the inner vertical x line which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the right
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 150
- Select the object as the vertical x line which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the right
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 2100
- Select the object as the horizontal x line which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the top
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 150
- Select the object as the horizontal x line which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the top
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 1700
- Select the object as the horizontal x line which was offset earlier and offset it by moving the cursor to the top
- In command enter offset and give offset distance as 300

- Select trim tool and select all object as a whole and trim the x line which are outside of the wall.
- In modify select break at a point tool and select the second horizontal x line from bottom and specify the point as the right inner intersection point of two lines to break the line.
- Select offset command and enter the offset distance of 828 and select the previously created line and move the cursor, press enter
- Select offset command and enter the offset distance of 300 and select the previously created line and move the cursor, press enter
- Select offset command and enter the offset distance of 728 and select the previously created line and move the cursor, press enter
- Select Trim command and select object as a whole and the opening for 828-dimension line for door
- Select line command pick up the first point as the bottom middle point of opening of door and give dimension as 15 by moving the cursor to the top.
- Move the cursor to the left and click at a point randomly and press esc
- Select offset and give offset distance as 10.
- Select line command and connect both the lines vertically on right side
- Select circle command and pick the center point of the circle as the end point of the connected lines. Draw a circle touching the other end of the middle of the line to form door D5
- Select Trim command and select the object as a whole and trim the excess lines and circle part

- To draw a window, select line command and pick the first point as the top right end point of the window area and move the cursor to the bottom and enter 50
- Move cursor to the left and click randomly in the middle
- Select rec command and pick the same point as the starting point and give dimension, length as 50 and width as 50
- Select mirror command and select the inner line which was drawn earlier and pick up the bottom and top middle points of the window and press enter
- Now join the ends of the square by the line command
- In modify select break at a point tool and select the second horizontal x line internal wall line and specify the point as the right inner intersection point of two lines to break the line.
- Select offset command and enter the offset distance of 122 and select the object as the previously created line and move the cursor, press enter
- Select offset command and enter the offset distance of 832 and select the object as the previously created line and move the cursor, press enter
- Select Trim command and select object as a whole and the opening for 832-dimension line for door
- Select line command pick up the first point as the bottom middle point of opening of door and give dimension as 15 by moving the cursor to the top.
- Move the cursor to the left and click at a point randomly and press esc
- Select offset and give offset distance as 10.
- Select line command and connect both the lines vertically on right side
- Select circle command and pick the center point of the circle as the end point of the connected lines. Draw a circle touching the other end of the middle of the line to form door
- Select Trim command and select the object as a whole and trim the excess lines and circle part
- Select rectangle command and pick up the starting point as top right end corner of the wall and give dimension, length as 702 and width as 351
- Select rectangle command and take the extension line from the vertical line of the internal to the outer wall and pick that point as starting point and give dimension, length as 402 and width as 201
- Select rec command and draw a temporary small rectangle in the middle
- Select line command and join the corner temporary rectangle to the immediate rectangular corner.
- Now select the temporary rectangle and delete it

- Select line command and pick top left inner corner of the outer wall point as starting point and give dimension as 150 and move the cursor to the top and draw a line intersecting that point.
- Select offset and select the vertical line which is created now and give offset distance as 631 to form V2
- Select line command pick the middle point of the left horizontal line of V2 and joint it to the other end
- Select offset and select the middle line which is created now and give offset distance as 50 and offset it on both sides.
- Select line command and draw a random line vertically connect three horizontal lines in the middle
- Select mirror tool and select the random line and mirror image it on the other side

Select trim command and trim all the lines which is extra other than the plan by select the object as a whole.
Results:
The following the part plan for the toilet and utility room is obtained by the above steps.
