    Aim:

To conduct the brief analysis on benchmarking on five seater family car.

    Objective:

    • To conduct a case study on benchmarking on SUV car between 8 to 10 lakhs
    • To obtain a brief on Benching Marking.
    • Compare the selected car by their features, prices and performance.
    • To arrive at a conclusion suggesting suitable car.

    Introduction:

Benchmarking is the practice of comparing business processes and performance metrics to industry bests and best practices from other companies. Dimensions typically measured are quality, time and cost.

Benchmarking is used to measure performance using a specific indicator (cost per unit of measure, productivity per unit of measure, cycle time of x per unit of measure or defects per unit of measure) resulting in a metric of performance that is then compared to others.

Also referred to as "best practice benchmarking" or "process benchmarking", this process is used in management in which organizations evaluate various aspects of their processes in relation to best-practice companies' processes, usually within a peer group defined for the purposes of comparison. This then allows organizations to develop plans on how to make improvements or adapt specific best practices, usually with the aim of increasing some aspect of performance. Benchmarking may be a one-off event, but is often treated as a continuous process in which organizations continually seek to improve their practices.

Benchmarking will differ from each sectors, now we are going to discuss about bench marking in automotive industry. Here bench marking will be done by relating the mileage, cost, price, market value, and Exterior appeal, features of car, cost of the vehicle and vehicle specification of their competitor. In automotive sector they ae many aspects to check their vehicle while benchmarking.  As important and initial stage they will evaluate the safety and comfort of the vehicle, it is done by pros and cons of the car with similar features in the automotive market. After all these checklist we can arrive at final product which can be better and suitable vehicle with low cost vehicle.

     Case Study:

Mr. D.S. Pughazhyendhii is a married man who lives in Bangalore which is a highly crowded city. His Family comprises five members including his wife, five-year-old boy, his father, and his mother. He visits his native place Madurai which is 500kms away from Bangalore once in a month. Also, he will be using his car to commute to his office. His budget falls between 8 to 10 lakhs on road. Please suggest to him with options so that he will buy a good car for his family.

Note: Pughazhyendhii  is fond of big cars

    Conclusion:

In this comparison we made a benchmarking between them now after manufacturing. It will done before manufacturing at beginning of design itself will be happen. As per the benchmarking results we will suggest the Honda WR-V for regular life style people use them for official and personal commuting because of main advantage of mileage, price and larger boot space. We may suggest Toyota urban cruiser for long travel and better performance. Toyota has good aesthetic appeal and high volume of fuel tank capacity, but as per pughazhyendhi point of view, Honda WR-V suits better when consider about mileage and boot space for a family. As he travel to Madurai around 500km once in a while, he doesn’t need more torque and power. A best choice of small family around 5 people, Honda WR-comes pughazhyendhi’s budget and his requirement.
