Title: Box Assembly Using Advanced Sheet Metal in NX_CAD

Objective:

The objective of the project is to design a Box Assembly using sheet metal application in Siemens NX software.

Introduction:

Sheet Metal is a comprehensive cold working process for metal sheets (usually below 6mm), including shearing, punching, cutting, folding, riveting, splicing, forming (such as car body) etc

Many different metals can be made into sheet metal, such as Steel, Aluminium, Brass, Copper, Tin, Nickel and Titanium. For decorative uses, some important sheet metals include silver, gold, Platinum.

Sheet metal is generally used in Automobiles, Aircrafts, wings, and also in Utensils. To manufacture all these in different designs and preparing drafting in the desired way by a manual drawing cannot be performed. If we use the design tools to do this can be a better choice and helps in modeling the object can be done easily.

There are some of the design tool software are available like CATIA, AUTOCAD, NX CAD, SOLID WORKS, PROE, etc.

** In this project I used Siemens NX-CAD student version.

Design Methodology:

Features used:

1. Sketch:- It is a 2D profile that can be extruded, revolved swepted, etc. to create a 3D product.

2. Tab:- Tab command is used to create a base feature or a tab by extruding a sketch along a vector by a specified thickness value. You can also use this command to create a secondary tab if the work part includes existing sheet metal features. You can do this by adding material to existing faces and bend regions of an existing sheet metal part.

3. Normal Cutout:- Normal Cutout is used to command to cut material by projecting a sketch onto the model and then cutting perpendicular to the faces intersected by the projection.

4. Bend:- Bend command used to create a bend in a planar area of the part.

5. Flange:-  Flange command used to create a single flange instance or multiple instances by selecting single or multiple base edges.

6. Unbend:- Unbend command used to unbend a portion of the part to construct cutout features, hole features, or deform features across a bend. You can later reform the bend to represent the true formed state of the model.

7. Hem Flange:- Hem Flange command used to modify an edge of a sheet metal part by folding it onto itself for the purpose of safe handling or to increase edge stiffness.

8. Dimple:- Dimple command used to lift an area of the model inside a sketch that simulates a stamping tool. You can create an indentation in a sheet metal part using a sketched section as the dimple outline.

9. Bead:- Bead command used to create a solid body using a path and a cross-section. The cross-sectional shape you define can be swept along a path over any number of objects to create the Bead feature.

10. Mirror:- Mirror command used to create Mirror features across a datum plane or planar surface.

11. Rebend:- Rebend command used to reverse an unbend operation so that the feature that was unbent returns to its previous bent state. Any features added after the unbend operation are properly repositioned during the rebend operation.

12. Datum Plane:- Datum Plane command used to create a planar reference feature to help define other features, such as swept bodies and features at angles to the faces of target solids.

13. Flat Pattern:- Flat Pattern command used to create a solid or wireframe flat representation of a flattened 3D FPCD part.

Conclusion:

Thus the project has been completed by designing a sheet metal box assembly using the sheet metal application in Siemens NX CAD.
